Snowboarding in Dartmoor during the summer will soon become a reality with the announcement today that the world’s largest indoor snow arena will be coming to the national park. Ski Dartmoor will be an indoor ski resort bringing snow flakes all year round to the residents and tourists of the South-West region who we are sure will be eager to sample some of the many slopes on offer.
It will be situated in the middle of the national park with 42,500 square metres of indoor snow area catering for beginners, skiers and snowboarders alike. The park will feature an 130-metre-high indoor mountain with 7 slopes of varying steepness and difficulty, including a 800-metre-long run and two indoor black diamond runs.
An extremely efficient insulation system will help the facility maintain a constant temperature of 1 °C (30 °F) during the day and −6 °C (21 °F) at night when the snow is produced and unlike Dubai, the Ski Dartmoor centre will have less impact on the environment due to the cooler climate of the UK.
Ski Dartmoor told Civil Unrest:
“Dartmoor National Park will pretty much remain the same and the design of the building will be in keeping of the surrounding area. The indoor snow park will be creating 356 jobs and local tourism will be given a boost due to the increase in visitors who will want to go skiing in Dartmoor one day and visit the coast the next“.
Ski Dartmoor has already started their recruitment drive and they would love to hear from anyone who has previous instructor experience or anyone who just loves being around in the snow.
